Doan and Jake invited me to take their engagement photos at the Library of Congress, and, as a Maryland wedding photographer, of course I was honored. We are so lucky to have such beautiful historic locations here in DC, and a Library of Congress wedding photoshoot could be exactly what you’re looking for. So, let me share a few of these images with you!

Location and History

The Library of Congress is right across the street from the Capitol, sandwiched between East Capitol St NE and Independence Ave. The Thomas Jefferson Building is the most famous building of the Library, because it includes those iconic white columns and grand staircases that are so eye-catching. The Library of Congress is the biggest library in the world, and boasts thousands of records, music, and stories—and if you take your photos here, we’ll add your story, too.

Guidelines for a Library of Congress Wedding Photos

Unfortunately, you can’t hold a ceremony or reception inside the Library of Congress—though I wish we could! You’re able to take photos in select locations, and I think it’d be perfect for the right bridal shoot, too. The library is open during specific hours to new guests, so make sure to plan ahead of time.

If you’ve fallen in love with the idea of a library wedding, check out my work at the George Peabody Library as an (incredible) alternative.

Photographs at the Library of Congress

At the library, there’s no shortage of breathtaking backdrops. Expect decorative columns, historic art pieces, statues, and eye-catching architecture. Murals and stone sculptures are on every wall. Even the floors are works of art.

So, make sure to dress up for your photographs at the Library of Congress. I loved that Doan wore this crushed velvet, and I think Jake looked straight out of a movie in his suit. All of your photos here can’t help but be timeless and romantic.

If you’re hoping to take Library of Congress wedding photos, I’d love to help you capture these moments! In fact, wherever you’re headed in DC, let me be your Maryland wedding photographer. I love this area and I’m ready to share my expertise with you! Drop me a line.
