One of my favorite places to shoot in Washington DC as a Maryland Photographer is Georgetown! I got the chance to head over there for a shoot with Daniel and Janine for their engagement session. And from the overcast skies to the bright murals in the city, it was stunning. We got some amazing shots to share, so let me be the first to convince you to have a Georgetown Washington DC engagement session!

Location of Georgetown Washington DC

If you’re less familiar with the area, Georgetown is about 8 minutes north of Constitution Avenue in DC, or about 15 minutes from downtown Arlington, VA. Georgetown is right off the Potomac River, and the Georgetown Waterfront Park has a lot of great photography opportunities!

The Charm of Georgetown Washington DC Engagement

Georgetown Washington DC is full of history! Cobblestone streets and climbing ivy are a staple here. What other people might not notice are the colorful buildings and canals that give this city an urban vibe. Daniel and Janine decided to go more casual for their engagement shoot, so we found some really gorgeous murals (and graffiti!) to give them dynamic, spontaneous-feeling backdrops.

Casual Poses for Your Engagement Session

One thing that we were able to achieve with Daniel and Janine were these flirty, natural poses that really showed the unique style of their relationship. Because as a Maryland photographer, my number one focus is you and showcasing what makes your relationship special! If you’re looking at these shots and thinking 100% yes, let me show you how we did it!

A Romantic Walk

To get this classic couples photography pose, put an arm around each other’s shoulders and look at each other as you take a few steps. Don’t speed! We can get the best photos if you walk slowly, and just a few steps. The result is is a candid and relaxed photo, perfect to hang on a wall or send out with your engagement announcements.

The Dance

The most genuine smiles come out of this one! Dance together, keep eye contact, and have fun! And you don’t have to be a skilled dancer to nail this pose. A simple twirl or slow dance will do the trick! I loved this little airplane move that Daniel and Janine did! A dance is also a great way to show off that brand-new engagement ring, wink wink.

The Almost-Kiss

Ooh, I love this one! The almost-kiss is the quintessential engagement photo. Achieve it by having one partner hold the other’s face (i.e. cheek or chin). The other partner provides support by putting a hand on the back or on the chest. Lean in and get ready for cute smiles!
