Are you head over heels for old Hollywood, Audrey and Marilyn? I have loved social media’s recent highlight on all things vintage, including classy and timeless urban engagement photos. And great news for us, my work as a Maryland engagement photographers led me to this amazing editorial engagement session in the Frederick Historic District.

I’m so excited to share some of this gorgeous session with you.

Editorial Engagements with Maryland Engagement Photographers

So what makes a session “editorial”? Editorial sessions are called “editorial” because they’re intended for the front of a magazine. So, a modern editorial session’s focus is on good storytelling. The photographer has to try to find a harmony between the subject and the background, so the whole image is telling the same story.

Editorial sessions showcase tasteful lines, clean composition, and artistic expression from the photographer. (That’s me!)

Historic Frederick Engagement Location

In this editorial engagement, we were telling the love story of this beautiful couple! We picked the historic Frederick district in Maryland on purpose; it was definitely worth the hour drive from Baltimore! First, Frederick’s architecture was built in the 1880s-1920s, so it has the old colonial columns, brick archways, and beautiful old church steeples—all the timelessness we wanted from this shoot.

But there’s the modern-urban side of it too, so it doesn’t feel too historical. We still got the cute downtown cafe, sunset on top of a parking garage, all the stuff you see in a contemporary romance. Also, in this session, we got these beautiful billowing clouds (which you can never expect as a photographer, but it’s so nice when you can capture them).

Classy and Timeless Engagement Styling

And if we had the right location, then we needed the perfect subject, and Alexis and Grady were definitely it!

Truly, it’s all in the styling. Grady sported a traditional black suit with an open white shirt and brown loafers, a time-honored style. Alexis went for an off-the-shoulder, fitted white cocktail dress with a sweetheart neckline—all fifties-inspired. She accessorized with pearls and diamonds, so really, how can you go wrong?

Putting it All Together with Maryland Engagement Photographers

Our classy and timeless urban engagement photos came together with the right poses. I especially loved all the fun lifts. The leaning kisses are so romantic too. Truly, this editorial engagement ended up being everything I had envisioned!
