Spring and summer are prime times for taking out your family for your annual family photos with a Baltimore photographer! If you want a natural, easily accessible and beautiful spot for your family photos, might I suggest the Azalea Gardens in Maryland. I was just there with the Crist Family for their photos. Trail Location and Hours Azalea Gardens Maryland
So the Brighton Dam Azalea Garden is right on the Brighton Dam, next to the Triadelphia Reservoir. If you’ve never been, Brighton Dam is about 50 minutes due west from downtown Baltimore, past Clarksville. The actual address is: Brighton Dam Visitor Center, 2 Brighton Dam Rd, Brookeville, MD 20833.
When is the trail open? During open season (March 15-November 30) the trail is open 7 days a week, from 7am to sunset. Make sure you talk with your photographer to get the best time for your portraits, because the light does matter.

Here’s a few more details for you. The trail guides say that between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM is the least crowded time to visit, so if few spectators is important to your family, we can schedule your session around then.
Peak blooming generally happens in early May–and you definitely don’t want to miss it! The trail is mostly gravel and packed dirt. The trails may be slippery when wet, and they do close in heavy rain. If you and your family need ADA accommodations, contact the Visitor Center guide when you get there for advice and help. No pets are allowed on this trail.
Water and Paths in the Gardens
Finally, your family photos here in the Azalea Gardens Maryland are going to pop with beautiful bunches of vibrant flowers. And I mean a ton of flowers–pink, red, white, and green! There is also, of course, some beautiful waterfront backdrops. There are some green lawns and stone steps for sitting portraits. It is the perfect spot for sessions with kids.
