Being a Baltimore wedding photographer is all about capturing life’s special moments, and man, did I get a special moment with Meg and Joe the other weekend. They contacted me about doing Howard County Conservancy photos for their maternity shoot, but the new baby wasn’t the only addition to the family we were celebrating.
Meg and Joe are a wedding couple of mine, so it’s been fun to follow their journey! After finding out Meg was pregnant, they unexpectedly lost their pup, Benny. Since then, they adopted a new puppy, named Marv, who was a big part of this shoot!
We shared a special moment as we recreated the same photo we’ve taken at every one of their shoots since their engagement photos! It’s the two of them kneeling down with their dog in the middle. As of this blog, we have three versions of this pose: one with old Benny, one with Marv at the maternity shoot (featured here), and one with Marv with the newborn baby, Henry!
So where to shoot for such an important session? Just fifteen minutes from Ellicott City, Howard County Conservancy is a little gem of a venue on Mt Pleasant. They have a ton of beautiful land, orchards, and a wedding venue here, but we spent almost all our time in a grassy field right outside Montjoy Barn. Just the trees and paths here offered plenty of variety for a full family session!
One thing that I really loved about this session was the lighting here. Since we went at dusk, we were able to get this soft, very pastel lighting that made the whole session hugely romantic! The way the sun set over the horizon here was breathtaking. It perfectly framed little Marv, running through the grass. Aw!
