A few times a year I offer mini sessions for families and couples. Typically once per season, but definitely in the Spring and Fall. I love minis because they’re the perfect way to capture a handful of beautiful, heartfelt images without the full-day commitment. They’re quick, fun, and especially great for families with little ones or couples wanting seasonal photos in gorgeous locations. Spots always go fast, so keep an eye out when I announce my fall family photos!
To keep things simple, a mini session is a shorter, more affordable version of a full photography session. Usually around 15 to 20 minutes and are designed to capture a handful of beautiful, high-quality images in a condensed timeframe. These sessions are held on specific dates at a predetermined location. Mini sessions are ideal for families with young kids, couples looking for updated photos, or anyone who wants a quick, relaxed photo experience without the time or investment of a full session. Despite being short and sweet, they still deliver stunning, professional images that feel just as meaningful.
So many of my families had the cutest outfits for fall minis! Which is why I want to spotlight a few of my favorite looks and why I loved them so much! From fall vibes to dressing for upcoming holidays. My families really nailed it this past fall with their family photo outfits!
Keep it classic with black, white and a pop of color! This timeless combo photographs beautifully and gives you a clean, cohesive look without feeling too matchy-matchy. Think a black blouse with blue jeans and some everyday low heel boots. The neutral base allows that one color to really shine, and it works in almost any season or setting.
I absolutely love this family’s style! The slightly elevated look with Dad wearing a blazer and sister wearing the perfect twirling dress, they really make a statement with their outfits. Not to mention, they have all the fall vibes too! From knee-high ruffle socks and a gingham pattern dress, to a warm orange sweater and brown leather sneakers. The kids looked effortlessly stylish while still being comfortable enough to run, play, and be themselves. Which is exactly what I love to capture! Their outfits not only complemented each other but also blended beautifully with the warm, golden tones of the season.
Make the most of your fall family photos mini session by incorporating holiday colors into your outfits. Deep greens, rich reds, and warm golds not only complement the fall foliage but also give your photos a festive feel that works beautifully for holiday cards and gifts. It’s a great way to get double the use out of your session!
Florals are not just for Spring family photos! As a girl mom myself, I absolutely adore fall floral fits for little girls. Think deep, moody blooms in shades of rust, mustard, navy, and plum. These tones pop beautifully against the golden autumn backdrop. Whether it’s a twirly dress with long sleeves or a cozy floral romper paired with tights and boots, it adds the perfect mix of whimsy and seasonal charm. Plus, florals are such a fun way to add pattern and texture without overwhelming your overall look.
As a Baltimore photographer, I will always encourage layers for fall photos. Not only do they add depth and texture to your images, but they’re also practical for our ever-changing Maryland weather. A cozy cardigan, a denim jacket, or a chunky knit scarf can elevate your outfit while keeping everyone warm and comfortable. Layers also give you the flexibility to mix and match looks within the same session. Just peel one off or swap an accessory, and you’ve got a fresh vibe without a full outfit change. I love how the children accessorized in this mini session with a vest, as well as the baby’s fluffy hat and boots!
Don’t be afraid to mix patterns for your family outfits. You may have noticed that a lot of my families in this blog mixed patterns throughout their family. And the result? More dynamic and visually interesting photos that still feel cohesive and intentional. The key is to stick to a complementary color palette and vary the scale of the patterns. Mixing patterns adds personality and movement to your images, making your family’s unique style shine through!
This may not be an outfit tip, but I just have to add this plug – Bring your pets along! It is so fun to have them there with your kids, exploring the surroundings. Plus, they are part of the family! Whether it’s a playful pup running through the leaves or a sweet cuddle moment with your cat or dog, including your furry friends adds so much personality and heart to your photos. Just make sure to bring a leash, a few treats, and maybe even a coordinating bandana or collar to tie it all together.
