Now is the perfect time of year to get outdoor family pictures. I may be a little biased because I am a Maryland family photographer, but the East Coast in the fall is beyond dreamy! Crisp air, warm sunsets and the leaves are just about to change with the cooler weather. What’s not to love about fall family photos? Here are some outdoor family photo ideas to use in your next session!

Get Creative With Location!

There are a lot of options when it comes to outdoor family photos in Maryland, so consider your family and what would work best for you. I have photographed families on their front porches, playing in their own yard, in the woods, at local parks and so many other locations! For families with small children I definitely recommend a spot that has plenty of room for running around and playing.

Go On A Walk

If you can’t decide on just one spot for your family photos, that is okay! We can always go on a walk together. This works especially well for parks and nature preserves that offer a few different backdrops in one location. This may take a little bit more time, so be sure to book your session type accordingly.

Bring A Blanket

I often do this for my family sessions. Blankets make great props, especially with kids! You can sit together on a blanket for both posed and candid pictures. Or you can play with the blanket by swinging littles in the basket or having them run under while mom and dad toss the blanket in the air. This is one of my favorites for outdoor family photo ideas!

Unique Outdoor Family Photo Ideas

Whether you are a family with small children, teenagers, or empty nesters. Outdoor family pictures are a beautiful opportunity to create lasting memories while capturing your love for each other. When thinking of outdoor family photo ideas, keep in mind your families unique set of needs, as well as some of your family traditions that you can bring into the photos.
